Homework:

Homework will be set on a Monday and handed in, by the following Monday.

Spellings will also be set on a Monday and children will complete a spelling test, the following Monday.

Reading Books:

Children will be listened to, three times a week, in school.

It is essential that you listen to your child at home. Please sign their reading journals.

Children will bring home a new reading book, when they are fluent in the reading of their current reading book. Reading books and journals need to be bought into school every day.

Thank-you for your continued support!

P.E for Spring 1:

P.E kits are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Summer 1 - Week 1 and 2
What a performance from Year 2 on the Great fire of London! For weeks the children have learnt and explored about this period in History and have enjoyed every moment! The final celebration of the topic was performing our assembly to parents... and WOW! FABULOUS!!!! We are so proud of them.

Spring 2 - Week 5

On Monday, the whole school had an assembly from the company, ROCK STEADY and wow did they love it! Children learnt about different musical instruments and sung along to many pop and rock songs! Miss McDonald and Mr Worthington were asked to come to the front to start a staff band, we played 'we will rock you,' and the children sang along so well! A letter has gone home to ask if children want to start their own rock band in school (please keep an eye out for this letter!) A fab day!!!

Spring 2 - Week 3 (Fact finding about the Great Fire of London in History)

Spring 2 - Week 1

Spring 1 - Week 5
Week 5 is our final week of our P.E lessons, with Alex, the Aston Villa coach.
We have had a brilliant half term of games in P.E , focusing on a large variety of different skills.

We love practical maths!
In Year 2 we have been working really hard on our 2 and 5 x tables. On Wednesday we went outside for some practical maths, getting ourselves into groups of 2 and 10.

Spring 1 - Week 4

On Thursday, 2MT followed instructions and baked cookies. We were inspired to bake, after reading ‘Astro Girl’ in English. After baking, we wrote a set of instructions for other people to use.

Spring 1 - Week 3
The Liturgy Leaders visited us and taught us about the conversion of St Paul. We completed some activities afterwards. Here is a mindmap to show you what we learnt! Thank you Liturgy Leaders, for being the teachers for the afternoon!

Spring 1, Week 2

This half term, we have P.E with Alex, one of our AVFC coaches.
Alex is teaching us lots of different skills (not just football related skills) but most importantly; teamwork.

Spring 1 - Week 1
World Peace Sunday 2024

Our ART work inspired by Peter Thorpe.

Autumn 2 - Week 7
In English this week, 2MT are exploring and writing newspaper reports! They spent Mondays lesson looking at examples of Newspapers and identifying the features. The main activity was to read an 'introduction paragraph' to a Newspaper Report and identify the who? what? where? when? and why? information that helps the reader understand what the report is about. Keep an eye out - we will upload some children's Newspaper Reports by the end of the week!

For our online safety day, we have been looking at the following objectives:

-Ways in which we communicate with others

-What is acceptable information to share online

-Identify people who can help us, if we are not sure about something online

-Explain the word, permission and why it is important

-Explain why we should always ask a trusted adult, about clicking 'yes', 'agree' or 'accept' online

Autumn 2 - Week 6
The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop today. They studied the snowman design carefully, then used acrylic paint to create their masterpieces! All children are very proud of their work and can't wait to show you all... here is a sneak peak!

For our story time on Thursday, year 2 enjoyed a live read with Santa, from the North Pole. What a special treat. After three fabulous Nativity performances this week, year 2 are now counting down the days until Christmas!

Autumn 2 - Week 4 & 5

2MT have had such a busy week. We have been practicing our oracy skills during Nativity practice, where the children are working really hard to learn their lines, remember their positions on stage and the words to the many wonderful Christmas carols, we will be performing.

On Friday, we had our 'Advent Craft' day, where we have focused on making wreaths.

Some children chose to make paper based wreaths, whilst others went outside into the forest school area, to create wreaths using evergreen leaves.

Autumn 2 - Week 3
Children took part in a Diwali workshop with an outside company. They dramatised the story of Rama and Sita.

'This is so fun!'

'I love your role play of the demon!'
'I love this story!'
Some pupil voice from the session.

Autumn 2 - Week 2

Above is 2MT's school council suggestion box! They coloured hearts in and we discussed words that represent the school council. Well done - a gorgeous box to use this year!

Children had an anti-bullying workshop from an outside company. They learnt the definition of bullying, what do do if they are being bullied and what to do if they witness bullying. Children were also asked to give each other compliments. It was so lovely to hear such wonderful things said about 2MT!

Autumn 2 - Week 1
In English, children learnt the four types of sentences: command, exclamation, question and statement. In groups, they sorted them into the correct sentence type. Well done 2MT, some fantastic group work!

Autumn 1 - Week 4 - Outdoor Day

Thursday 28th September - Autumn 1, Outdoor Day

What a fabulous day year 2 have had today! We started our day by going through the rules of the forest, to ensure that everyone was kept safe, whilst learning and having lots of fun.

During our outdoor day, we;

-Shared the story,' The Very Big Den', by Ruth Symons. With each page, the children had to complete a task

-We focused on our senses, reflecting on what we could see, hear, smell and feel

-We build homes for hedgehogs

-Climbed trees, under the watchful eye of Mrs Hill

-Created bug hotels, inspired by the book, 'The Hotel for Bugs'

Autumn 1 - Week 3 - Active Learning

On Thursday, during Active Learning, we made Worry Dolls, in relation to the story 'Ruby's Worry' which has been our focus story in English. We also used our sketching skills to draw some of God's creatures, as we have been learning about the story of Noah's Ark in R.E.

The children had a fabulous Monday afternoon, practising a range of skills such as: painting, drawing, constructing, writing and observing! All activities were based on our RE and English lessons. 100% focus from all children. Brilliant!
