Year One
Some of my favourite sayings....
"We are stars - watch us shine with the gifts that God gave us!"
"You can't use up creativity. The more you use; the more you have!"
My name is Mrs Doherty, I have been a teacher here at St. Edward’s since I started my teaching career; over 14 years ago. I have taught in many year groups including Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all for different reasons. I am really excited to return to Year 1 this year and look forward to the year ahead as 1SD. In school I lead RE as this was a subject that I chose to study at University whilst training to be a teacher and I work closely with Mrs Kennett to develop the prayer and Catholic life of our school. I am also the Assistant Head Teacher which is still very new and an exciting challenge for me.
I am really looking forward to the year ahead, getting to know you and your child. If you need anything, I am always here to listen and help where I can. There are many adults who may be working with your child at some point but incase any of you are unsure of what I look like see if you can find me on the 'Who's who' page in the information tab. Mrs Naylor will also be supporting us in Year 1 so if I am unavailable please do speak to her.
I like to use homework as a key way to keep you informed about the subject content and coverage in class as what is sent home will always link to the learning in class or key targets for your child.
We have many ways to communicate here at school and you can use this page as an insight into the classroom and life in 1SD but I will also send a weekly email every Friday with key information that you need. If you need to communicate with me or anyone within school currently the most efficient way would be to email the teacher@stedward.bham.sch.uk email address which will be checked regularly and we will try to respond to you as quickly as I can. This is just because after school many of the teachers have commitments such as meetings, training or school events and may not be available to speak on some days.

Our first book
Celebrating the Nativity of Mary
We spoke about how important Mary is and how her feast day is celebrated on her birthday. We sang happy birthday and made cards to put on our prayer space.
First Week Back...
We have begun learning about our body. We had to join body parts, label body parts, make play dough bodies and add labels and we even played body part dominoes.

Seasonal changes
In science, we have been learning all about the seasons. We have looked at how the weather changes, how trees and plants might change and what clothes we would wear in different seasons.

My Local Area
We have been exploring what we can see in our local area. The children have thought about what they might see on their journey into school and around their homes. They have also designed towns and thought about how to stay safe by having road crossings near to schools and parks.

Outdoor day - Spring term
We had lots of fun exploring the forest and looking for clues like Hermelin. We found some thank you notes from Hermelin, as we have been great Stewards of God's creation and looked after our outdoor space and the animals that live there.
