Year 6

Autumn 1 Week 7

On Wednesday, we walked up to Church to lead a Mass to celebrate the Feast Day of St Luke. The children introduced Mass by telling the congregation all about Saint Luke. The children read eloquently and it really was a lovely Mass that we shared with Year 5.

Autumn 1 Week 6

To celebrate St Luke’s Feast Day, the children belonging to his house wore green and made fresh cakes for a bake sale. Year 6 children helped Mr Worthington and Mrs Naylor on both the KS1 and KS2 stalls. The bake sale raised more than £200 for St Mary’s Hospice. Miss Broadbent tested a cupcake or two and can confirm that they were extremely yummy. We definitely have some future Great British Bake Off winners on our hands!

Autumn 1 Week 4

We have had a busy week in Year 6. On Thursday, we spent time meeting our Faith Friends in Year 3. The Year 3 children had made cards for the Year 6’s and the Year 6 children wrote letters introducing themselves. All children really enjoyed getting to know one another and found the experience really exciting. We look forward to working closely with Year 3, in order to support them on their faith journey and with their Communion preparation!

To celebrate Little Way Week and the Feast Day of Saint Therese of Lisieux (1st October), we  discussed how we can live our lives like Saint Therese and build little acts of kindness into our week. The children shared lots of ideas of how they will build their own spiritual bouquet for God. We also wrote beautiful and meaningful prayers to decorate our classroom altars.

Autumn 1 Week 3

This week we have been celebrating the centenary of the Legion of Mary association by learning about the founder and discussing which prayers we say during the rosary. We used our class set of rosary beads to re-familiarise ourselves with the order. We are extremely lucky to have a visit planned next week with the Legion of Mary.

Autumn 1 Week 3

This week we have been preparing for the visit of The Legion of Mary (Thursday 30th September) by re-familiarising ourselves with the rosary and using our class set of rosary beads. We celebrated the centenary of the Legion of Mary by learning all about the founder.

Autumn 1 Week 2

Charlotte, Daniel, Imogen and Thomas were awarded certificates this week in Gospel Assembly for demonstrating our gospel values for this half term. All four children have been eloquent and truthful in their actions this week. They have shown a great deal of interest in our new class topic of World War 2 in History, sharing their ideas, projects and knowledge with the class. Daniel was recognised by more than one member of staff for being such a kind pupil of St Edward’s. He spoke to a child lower down the school during his break-time to ensure that he was happy and has somebody to play with. Well done to you all. We are so proud of you!

Autumn 1 Week 1 - Nativity of Mary

During our first week in Year 6, we have been learning all about the feast of the Nativity of Mary. We celebrated Mary's birthday on Wednesday by writing special prayers, creating artwork and we led a school Mass in Church. During our RE lesson, we discussed Mary's key qualities and how we plan to follow her example. Some of the children thought about modern day mothers and the challenges they're facing in their prayers too, making links to their PSHE lessons based on the troubles in Afghanistan.

We have attached some images below of our artwork.
