Moses and the Burning Bush
This week in RE, we have been looking at the Birth of Moses as well as the story of ‘Moses and the Burning Bush’. In the forest we listened the story, discussed it and created our own dance to share with younger children.
Amaya and Thea from 4AA produced a prayer service to share with our class for the end of half term. They chose to lead it on kindness and the children all enjoyed sharing their positive thoughts and complimenting one another. It was a very thoughtful and reverent service, well done girls!
St Edwards’s Feast Day
To celebrate St Edward’s feast day, we discussed St Edward, who he was and why he is so special to our school. We wrote some lovely prayers for him and decided to make a stained glass window with our school logo on, to embed his presence within the classroom and give us a daily reminder of him.
Feast Day of St Therese
To celebrate Little Way Week, we challenged ourselves to do a small act of kindness every day because St Therese made a difference by doing lots of little acts of kindness. Every child came up with lots of lovely ways to help each other, their parents, their teachers and even some strangers.
Each time St Therese did a small act of kindness, she gave a flower to Jesus. Therefore, we made flowers on which we wrote these acts of kindness to display in our classroom in honour of her.
We researched CAFOD and found out what they have done to help others. We created posters to show the children in KS1 to help them understand why we fundraise for such a worthy cause.
God the Protector
We created some religious artwork based on Jacob’s dream. In this story, God came to Jacob in a dream to warn him about his twin brother.
Centenary of the Legion of Mary
On Tuesday, we prayed the Rosary for the centenary of the Legion of Mary. We learned that the founder spent up to 4 hours a day praying.
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1: 26)
This week, we have started learning about the creation of the world, specifically the creation of humans and how we are all created in God's image and likeness. We have explored different scriptures from the Bible and thought about how the qualities of God are similar to other significant people in our lives.
On Wednesday, Year 3 and 4 went on our first trip to St Edward's Church to participate in Mass for the first time in 18 months. All of the children were very reverent and sang their hearts out to the chosen hymns. We were all very impressed with the confidence and clarity of the children who read the bidding prayers (Brendan, Thea, Rosann, William and Jessica) and Psalm (Kian). Year 1 loved the Mass so much that they even wrote letters to us!
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the parents again who walked with us to church and ensured the children stayed safe, we couldn't have done it without you :)
Celebrating the Nativity of Our Lady
Year 3 and 4 shared a beautiful prayer service together to celebrate the day when we remember the birth of Mary. Quiet reflective music helped us focus our thoughts on Mary and our prayers were for people, especially children, around the world. The children were eager to share their personal prayers with the phase and are thinking about how they can create their own prayer circles for their classes, choosing their favourite passages from the Bible, their favourite hymns and having complete ownership of their special prayer time together.
