Year 1

Summer 1- Sponsored Move

Spring 2, Week 3

This week, we have been focusing on the sayings of Jesus, particularly “I am the Light of the World” and “Love your enemies”. We wrote prayers thanking Jesus for being a guiding light to us by showing us the correct path and helping us to make the right decision.  We know that if we make a mistake, Jesus will always forgive us and we can try again.  We held a prayer service, with candles and reflective music, and read our prayers to one another.

Spring 2, Week 2- Year 1 Mass

Year 1 led Mass this week, in the hall.  Our theme was on Lent and how we can follow in Jesus’ footsteps. We told others about the importance of the colour purple (a sign of preparing), sand (to remember Jesus being in the desert) and making Lenten promises. We were particularly proud of our singing and especially enjoyed singing ‘Taste and See’.

Spring 2, Week 1

We were so proud of our friends in Year 6 for leading the Ash Wednesday Mass this week. We listened on the webcam and watched as Father Denis gave ashes to the children. Mrs Kenneth then joined us after Mass to give us the ashes which we wore with pride for the rest of the day.

Autumn 2, Week 5 Advent

We had such fun on Monday during our Advent craft afternoon to mark the beginning of Advent. We looked closely at the Advent wreath and thought about its importance. We then used our scientific knowledge to find some evergreen branches to make our own wreath and made some Advent crowns and banners.

Autumn 2, Week 3

This week 1JW and 1PW were able to pray the Rosary. The children were so focused and reverent, they were able to pray it in its entirety. We are lucky to have this time to reflect and pray together.

Autumn 2, Week 2

This week, we came together to celebrate Mass in the hall with Fr Dennis. The children were so reverent and respectful and we are so proud of their signing and prayerfulness.

Autumn 2, Week 1

On Monday and Tuesday, we celebrated All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day. We learnt the significance and importance of these special days and held a prayer service to remember the loved ones we have lost. We joined together in prayer and lit a candle on our class altar.

Autumn 1, Week 6: St Edward’s Feast Day

This week, we celebrated the feast of Saint Edward in church. We were so proud to lead the school in prayer and song. When we returned to school, we learnt more about the life of Saint Edward and created our own crowns.

Autumn 1, Week 4: Little Way Week

This week, we celebrated Little Way Week. We started the week by exploring St Thérèse of Lisieux. We learnt that through small, loving actions we too can deliver God’s love to the world.

The children shared ways that they can show kindness to others and made kindness flowers.

‘I can prove my love by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every kind glance, word and action.’ St Thérèse of Lisieux

Autumn 1, Week 3

We spent some time this week to appreciate God’s Creation and reflect on how it is a gift He gave to us.  We went on a Creation walk and found so many wonderful things. However, we were upset to see some litter around the school! We have written letters to the other children in the school to remind them how important it is to care for His Creation.

Autumn 1 Week 2

This week, we have been learning about the story of Creation. We sequenced the days (and learnt about ordinal numbers at the same time!) and created artwork of our favourite things God created.

We celebrated Mass this week, which was led by Year 3 and 4.  We thought the older children were wonderful (we especially liked their singing and signing).  We have been inspired to learn the actions to the hymns we will sing next week in Church, so we can praise God through song.

Autumn 1 Week 1 - Nativity of Mary

During our first week in Year 1, we have been learning all about the feast of the Nativity of Mary. We celebrated Mary's birthday on Wednesday by writing special prayers, making birthday cards and flowers, and holding a prayer service in class.

Some of the children picked flowers to place on our prayer table to honour Mary.
