Gardening Club

Welcome to our Gardening Club page!

Gardening club is a new addition to the extra-curricular activities provided at St Edward’s and has already proven to be very popular amongst Key Stage 1 children.

So far this term the gardeners have identified areas on the school grounds that they would like to develop and have set about weeding and planting them. The children are keen to improve our school and have shown great enthusiasm for caring for our environment.

Look what we've been doing ...

Look what we've been doing ... 1 Learning about plants
Look what we've been doing ... 2 Exploring the parts of a plant
Look what we've been doing ... 3 Learning how to plant flowers
Look what we've been doing ... 4 We think we need to weed this...

The gardeners have enjoyed planting bulbs around the border of the Key Stage 1 playground and also at the front of our school. Prior to Remembrance Sunday we added laminated paper poppies to pots that we had already planted. We talked about the importance of the poppies at this time of year.

The following week we planted saplings along the perimeter of the forest school area and added protectors to keep them safe. The trees were provided by the Woodlands Trust as part of a school tree planting scheme. As part of our planting experiences we have been learning that plants/trees need water, space and light to survive and grow.
