Welcome to 1W

Year 1

Welcome to our Year 1 class page.

Spring Term
We have had a great start back after our Christmas break and our lovely year one children are getting back into the swing of things.  In maths, we are moving onto higher numbers as we complete our mastery tasks in addition and subtraction, with numbers 10-20. Later on in the term we will be working on measurement looking at length, capacity and weight.  In geography, the children are thoroughly enjoying learning about ‘hot and cold places’, we have been discovering where these places are on a globe and what animals we would find there.  In science, we will be studying the weather and comparing day and night, as well as identifying changes that happen from winter to spring (we are all looking forward to getting some warmer weather!).  We’ll be kicking off our Moon Zoom topic with a big launch day filled with space-themed activities, here the children will get to dress up for the day!  Our texts at the start of this term will be Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram

and Orion and the Dark by Emma Yarlett

In reading we will be completing activities based on The Tiger who came to Tea by Judith Kerr, a favourite amongst children and staff!

Scroll down for useful electronic resources and things to do and remember the year one team are always on hand to answer your questions.  Here's to a great term!

Autumn Term

We have been so impressed with how the children have settled into their new classrooms and routines.

Our first topic this term has been ‘Marvellous Me’, where we have drawn portraits, labelled parts of the body, and investigated our senses.

Our class books are ‘Dogger’ and ‘Not Now Bernard’, where we have written in role, acted out our favourite parts of the story and explored toys through time.

Our focus in maths is on number and place value (within 10) to help secure our understanding of number.

Please continue with your support of reading at home, it is such an essential part of your child’s learning. Also, if you are able to help hear readers one morning a week, please see a member of the year 1 learning team.
